Changes to Assesment and Reporting

Dear parents,
we have recently made subtle changes to the style of our assessment of Kindergarten aged children. We have made these changes for three reasons. Firstly to allow assessments to more accurately reflect a child's individual learning path, secondly to ensure that our assessment is developmentally aimed at 3 and 4 year olds specifically and lastly to be able to allow assessment to reflect our social constructivist philosophy.
You will notice some changes firstly in our reporting timetable
  • Children will receive a full written report in the final term of their time in the Pirie Room and then again in the final term of their time in the Flinders Room
  • Teachers will offer parent teacher interviews more regularly and to a wider cohort of families each time.

We have also made changes to our Portfolios. We are hoping for this document to become more of a living book of experiences that both students and staff can add to.

  • Portfolios will now go home only at the end of each academic year. They are available to borrowed over weekends and are always available to be viewed in the classroom at any time (you will notice our new parent nooks where portfolios are stored)
  • We are now reporting on your child's special experiences and progress through learning stories. When your child has a new learning story in their portfolios you will receive an invitation to view it through your child's pocket or pigeon hole.

Please feel free to contact me at the college if you have any concerns or quiries about these changes.

Director
