Dear Parents,
we are pleased to announce our P&F reps for 2008.
Pirie Room: Annie Antonas and Bianca Fiorentino
Flinders Room: Rowena Jimmieson and Bec Carolan
These reps will facilitate the organisation of get togethers through the year and help us with some community service activities but will also be calling on other parents to assist at different times.
Thankyou to all four of these parents and we look forward to working with them.

Clipsal Tickets
Dear Parents,
we have sold all of our tickets that we have available for adults at $20. Thankyou so much for your support, we have had a great response and now have enough adult helpers for the trip to go ahead. Those parents who have indicated that they are coming but have not purchased at $20 ticket will need to purchase one for $35 dollars at the gate on the day (if you would like to drop your child off in the morning and then pop out the gate to purchase it before you come back to start the trip that will make things much quicker when go through).
Some parents have asked about using the tickets after the excursion later in the day. The tickets are yours for the day but please note that your arm is stamped when you enter that gate and stamps must be shown to gain access with your ticket later in the day. Tickets are not transferable.
Thankyou

Keep Them Coming!
Dear Parents,
please keep those family portraits coming in. Flinders parents please remember that we would prefer vertical photos to fit our frames rather than horizontal ones.

Littlesports Australia
Little boys love to be physical but often very young children are too young for organised sporting clubs. If you are looking for a sporting activity outside of Kindergarten time that is appropriate for young children please ask staff for a Littlesports brochure. Littlesports is a program designed in South Australia for children between the ages of 3 years to 8. It aims to develop skills and confidence enabling young children to enhance their all-round sporting ability and positive attitudes, giving them a desire to be involved in physical activities throughout life. Class sizes are limited to 12 and the session is 60 minutes long for $15.00
Chinese Term One
Dear Parents,
you will notice that in the bar on the right hand side of our blog site we have added your child's Chinese vocabulary focus words for term one. Although handy for those who have some understanding of Chinese pronunciation, it can be a bit tricky for the rest of us. Lao Shi Chu, our Chinese teacher, has recorded a Chinese vocabulary CD to help parents with pronunciation. If you would like a copy please send along a blank CD, clearly named, to Kindergarten and we will burn a copy for you.
Lao Shi Chu would also like to inform you that there will be a special street party in China Town (Moonta Street, Adelaide) on Saturday 9th February from 10.00am to 4.00pm for those who would like to share in the celebrations of the year of the rat with your child. There will be lion dancers, traditional Chinese crafts and food as well as an art exhibition and lots of New Years decorations. A wonderful family day out, don't forget to wear lucky red!!

Child Youth Health Services Visit for Flinders Room Boys
Dear Parents of Flinders Room boys,
We have organised for the Children, Youth and Women's Health Services nurse to visit us on the 13th and 14th of February between 9.45am and 3.15pm for a "blue book" check up. You will receive a form in your child's pigeon hole to fill out and return to the teacher.
You do not have to send your child for a check up but we do recommend that this check up occurs before children move into the Reception classroom. Parents must be present for the appointment and must bring their child's blue CAFS book. The nurse will give the boys a general check up including tests for hearing and sight. If you would like to take advantage of this visit please put your child's name and date of birth as well as the name of the adult that will be attending in an appropriate time slot on the booking sheet in the Flinders Room.
Thanks

Big Smiles
Dear Parents,
as you are aware, our first unit for 2008 is entitled "We are One, We are Many". Students have begun to discuss and investigate similarities and differences and now are starting to talk about families and their place within one. We are requesting that students from both classes bring a copy of a family photo to school to share.
In the Flinders Room we would prefer if this photo was a portrait shape and the size of a normal 4X6 photo to fit in the frames in our gallery
Thanks

Lunch Ideas
On our Parent Information evening we shared with parents our desire to become a waste free centre (both to support sound environmental principals but also to show our students environmentally responsibility and action in a tangible way that they can understand).
We asked parents to consider using containers that can be taken home, washed and reused for lunches and snacks rather than buying individually wrapped food items. The results were immediate and we must congratulate Thomas' Mum and Dad who sent a waste free lunch box the very next day, Thomas was very proud and we were thrilled that his parents had obviously shared with him why his lunchbox had a new look. Big gold stars should go to all our parents who already send a "green" lunch box.
As a result of a suggestion on our Parent Information Evening we will be collating healthy lunch and snack ideas that parents would like to share with others. If you have and idea that your child loves please forward it to mbishop@pac.edu.au. We will publish the responses in our light box on this blog site in coming weeks.

A New Arrival
We are excited to announce that at the end of last term Mrs Sarah Taylor gave birth to her first child. Andrew and Sarah were thrilled to announce the arrival of their little baby girl, Giaan Isabella. Giaan arrived safely without complication and a day after Sarah was well and in fantastic humour. From all accounts Giaan is a settled and happy baby. We wish Sarah and Andrew all the very best in these first months with Giaan and look forward to a Kindergarten visit very soon!
Welcome to 2008
Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome back to Kindergarten for a new year. We hope that all our families had a restful but adventurous holiday and that both boys and parents are ready for the new academic year to begin. We started slowly with just three school days last week and it was wonderful to have the centre alive with the noise of excited boys and enthusiastic teachers again.
We welcomed back many faces, both new and familiar, students and staff alike. I would particularly like to welcome new families into our community and invite them to attend our family picnic, remember, once a Princes family, always a Princes family. I trust you will find our others families welcoming and supportive.
I would like to congratulate the staff and particularly thank Pirie Room staff, most of whom join us for the first time this year, for the preparation they put in during the Christmas holidays. I was overwhelmed by the commitment, time and planning that the staff put in in preparing the environment for a smooth transition for new students. My observations last week confirmed that all the hard work paid off as I watched happy, settled faces and young minds engaged and focussed. What a positive and exciting start to the year. I can't wait to see what the new year brings.
